3 Pieces of Menswear That You Did Not Know Originated From India

What ?! Are these actually from India ?
  1. The Cummerbund

People, Man, Woman, Couple, Marriage, Wedding, Gown

The word cummerbund is the Anglicized form of kamarband (Hindustani: कमरबंद; کمربند), the name commonly used in the South and West Asia including India for the article of clothing. It entered English vocabulary in 1616 from India. It is a combination of the Hindustani words (kamar) meaning 'waist'[2] and (band) meaning 'strap' or 'lacing'.[3] The 'waist-band' was a sash accessory worn by Indian men for many occasions.[citation needed] (Before the British colonial presence, Persian was one of the court languages in India, hence the Persian influence).

  2. The Pajama

Pajamas or pyjamas (UK) (/pəˈdʒɑːməz, pɪ-, -ˈdʒæ-/), often shortened to PJs or jammies, can refer to several related types of clothing originating from the Indian subcontinent. In the Western world, pajamas are loose-fitting garments derived from the original garment and worn chiefly for sleeping, but sometimes also for lounging, also by both sexes. More generally, pajamas may refer to several garments, for both daywear and nightwear, derived from traditional pajamas and involving variations of style and material.

  3. The Bandana

A bandanna or bandana (from Hindi बन्धन, bandhana, "to tie") is a type of large, usually colorful, kerchief, usually worn on the head. Bandannas are frequently printed in a paisley pattern.
